1. PAN Card of Proprietor (Mandatory)

PAN of the proprietor is compulsory because GST registration is linked with PAN.

2. Aadhaar Card of Proprietor

GST portal may require Aadhaar authentication for quick approval.

If Aadhaar authentication is not completed, GST officer verification may take longer.

3. Photograph of Proprietor

A passport size photograph (JPEG format) is required.

4. Proof of Proprietor’s Identity (Any One)

Generally, PAN is enough, but sometimes additional identity proof is requested.

5. Address Proof of Proprietor (Any One)

6. Proof of Business Address (Any One)

If the property is owned by proprietor:

Required:

  • Electricity Bill / Water Bill / Property Tax Receipt
  • Ownership proof (optional but recommended)

Electricity bill should not be older than 2 months ideally.

If the property is rented / leased:

Required:

  • Rent Agreement / Lease Agreement
  • Electricity Bill (owner’s or premises bill)
  • NOC (No Objection Certificate) from owner (recommended)

If business is run from family property (father/mother/wife etc.)

Required:

  • Electricity Bill
  • NOC from owner of property

Bank Account Proof

It is not mandatory at the time of application filed for registration but mandatory to update it within 30 days from the date of registration under GST.

7. Bank Account Details of Proprietorship

Any one of the following:

  • Cancelled cheque (with name printed)
  • Bank passbook first page
  • Bank statement (first page showing details)

Bank account should preferably be in the trade name or proprietor name.

Business Proof Documents (Supporting Documents)

Although not mandatory but these documents strengthen your GST application.

8. Proprietorship Firm Proof (Any One)

 Accepted documents:

  • Shop & Establishment Certificate
  • Udyam Registration (MSME)
  • Trade License issued by local authority

  • Partnership deed is NOT applicable (only for partnership firm)

9. Letter of Authorization

At the time of GST registration application filed if you want to appoint anyone as an authorized signatory then an authorization letter is required.

These are not documents but mandatory information required on GST portal.

10. Mobile Number and Email ID

Required:

  • Active mobile number (OTP verification)
  • Valid email ID (OTP verification)

OTP comes on both email and mobile.

Digital Signature / EVC Requirement

For proprietorship, DSC is usually not mandatory.
